In Tanzania, the need of the hour is to train farmers on the benefits of agri mechanisation and the technicians on the features, handling and maintenance of the tractors and other implements. One of the biggest challenges currently faced by the agricultural sector in Tanzania is the farmers’ lack of knowledge about agri mechanisation solutions and the notion that it is expensive. Farmers rely on the opinion of local technicians while making their purchase decisions. However, the presence of very few trained operators and technicians in most areas proves to be a huge deterrent. To empower farmers and technicians with the right knowledge on agri mechanisation solutions, a long term training programme has been initiated by Agricom, Mahindra's sole distributor, this year. Called the Shamba Pesa Training Programme, it will be implemented across the country. Under this program, the youth will receive free training on how to operate and repair Swaraj tractors In a bit of positive push to this initiative, Agricom has managed to secure a buyin from the Government of Tanzania and Tanzania Private Sector Foundation, who have agreed to partner the training programme by co-funding its initial phase. His Hon. Japhet Hasunga, Minister of Agriculture and the Minister of Livestock and Fisheries officially launched this training programme at the Melela branch. The new Swaraj 963 4WD tractor was introduced to the audience, and a product demo session was also conducted. Mr. Lakhwinder Singh, Swaraj’s representative travelled from India for the first phase of training and demonstration wherein 80 technicians and 15 operators were trained along with the Agricom staff. The first batch covered a total of 150 participants. The vision is to train up to 600 people - 200 technicians and 400 operators – in 4 phases, once the Covid-19 situation eases
